Trombonist Emeritus, John Smith (seated) retired recently at the age of 96! A dedicated musician since he was nine years old, John was hired in the 1930's by 20th Century Fox studios to work in the staff orchestra.  In 1938 John was picked to play trombone in the hit movie "Alexander's Ragtime Band." Subsequently he worked with the likes of Skinny Ennis, Frankie Trambauer, Red Engles, Will Osborne and Jack Teagarden. He retired after the war for a time, but after moving to Oceanside in 1974 resumed his music career. He joined the BBJHF Orchestra in 2000.  We miss him and will keep his chair warm!
